Blue Crater Day Trip

Experience a day immersed in nature by participating in this excursion to the Blue Crater. You will journey along the Pasión River and Arroyo Pucté, all within a distinctive setting in Guatemala.

Trip Overview

Your adventure begins with a pickup from your accommodation, followed by a journey lasting approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes toward Sayaxche. Along the route, we will make a brief stop to gather a picnic lunch that we’ll enjoy later during our excursion. Get ready for an exciting day!

Upon arrival, we will proceed to the banks of the Pasión River, which is a tributary of the Usumacinta, winding its way through lush tropical jungles before flowing into the Gulf of Mexico. Here, you will board a speedboat for a ride lasting between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours.

As we navigate the waters, you will hear the soothing sounds of the flowing river harmonizing with the melodies of birds like herons, kingfishers, and green parrots. Be sure to gaze at the tree tops! We will also glide along the Arroyo Pucté, adorned with vines and aerial roots that seem to cradle the riverbed.

Soon enough, you will arrive at the Blue Crater, a secluded oasis nestled within the Maya Biosphere Reserve.

Here, you will have 3 hours of leisure time, enabling you to dine, swim in the crystal-clear waters, and explore the underwater landscape of the Blue Crater using the snorkeling gear provided. Did you know the Blue Crater reaches depths of 16 to 22 ft (5-7 m) and houses a stunning underwater garden formed by calcareous structures?

After enjoying the serenity of nature, we will return to Sayaxche by speedboat, followed by a bus ride back. Finally, you will be dropped off at your hotel, concluding the day after an enriching 8.5 hours.
