Tour Overview

Our adventure commences at the appointed hour in Piazza Duomo. From this bustling square, we'll set off on a guided journey through Altamura, delving into the unique features of this picturesque town in the Murge plateau. Let’s embark!

Our first stop will be the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, an impressive example of Romanesque-Gothic architecture, with its twin bell towers rising majestically. Next, we’ll head towards the Pontrelli Quarry, more commonly known as Dinosaur Quarry. Here, you'll discover that the footprints of over 200 species were uncovered, revealing the area's fascinating prehistoric past.

Continuing our historical journey, we will arrive at the historic center. Together, we'll visit the home of the composer Saverio Mercadante and the San Nicola dei Greci Church, which stands proudly along the city's main thoroughfare. Along the way, we’ll touch upon the extensive history of Altamura, a locale that has been inhabited since ancient times. We will even encounter the remains of Ciccillo, dating back more than 150,000 years.

To conclude our tour on a delightful note, we will visit a traditional bakery to sample the authentic Altamura bread, celebrated worldwide for its distinctive flavor that promises to tantalize your palate!
