Are you passionate about ornithology? This 4-day expedition along the Yanayacu River offers a unique chance to encounter some of the most stunning avian species dwelling in the Peruvian jungle.

4-Day South Amazon Journey with Birdwatching

Day 1

Your adventure begins at 9:15 am when we'll collect you from your hotel in Iquitos. A minibus will transport you to the city port, where we will board a boat for a scenic journey through the Amazon River to our lodge.

Upon arrival, you'll settle into the cabins and enjoy a delectable meal. Following lunch, we will venture out for a guided walk to explore the various plant species sought after by local birds. As night falls, you can unwind during a delightful dinner while immersed in the soothing sounds of nature.

Day 2

Rise early to witness a remarkable avian species: the Crax Globulosa, an endangered bird known for its striking black feathers and vibrant orange-red beak.

After returning to camp for lunch, we will embark on a boat excursion along the Yanayacu River and later enjoy the captivating sunset over a serene lagoon. After dinner, we’ll take a night stroll into the jungle to observe nocturnal birdlife.

Day 3

Enjoy a delicious breakfast before embarking on a special expedition, depending on water levels. We will delve into the southern Peruvian Amazon, where you can spot monkeys, vibrant butterflies, insects, and various bird species. Be on the lookout for the roaming anaconda!

After lunch, we will continue our exploration at Corrientillo lagoon, where more tropical birds await our discovery. Following dinner, prepare for another intriguing night walk.

Day 4

On the final day, we’ll depart early from the camp and set sail towards the Amazon islands, where endemic bird species are found. Breakfast will be served on board, allowing you to observe the species of the high jungle, home to the extraordinary pink dolphin and the unique Victoria Regia plant.

After enjoying lunch, we will make our way back to Iquitos, with an expected arrival around 4 pm.

Accommodation for the Tour

This journey includes 3 nights of full board accommodation in a double room at Muyuna Amazon Lodge. The lodge features cabins equipped with private bathrooms and terraces boasting hammocks overlooking the river.

Flight Arrangements

Should your flight schedule not align with the proposed timings, we can adjust the pickup time for a late arrival, subject to a supplementary charge. It is recommended to plan travel during daylight hours to fully appreciate the river scenery, with the latest departure time set at 3 pm.

Informações importantes

The local tour guide will contact you to specify the pickup time at the airport and the hotel. Please be at the pick-up point 10 minutes in advance to avoid delays. The contact number is +51 965934424.

Schedule & Pickup

Pick up from the hotel and airport will be at 9:15 am. At 9:30 am the boat leaves for Muyuna, where you will arrive at 12:30 pm.

There is a different departure time for those arriving on the flight from Cusco at 10:40 am. Please note that on the last day you will arrive in Iquitos at 4 pm.

Important Info

We use solar energy in the bungalows for lighting, ceiling fans, and hot water showers. Please keep in mind that battery charging depends on weather conditions.
There are no power outlets in the bungalows, so charging electronic devices is only possible in the common areas.
WiFi is available from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm and from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
Meals are served as a set menu at the table or buffet-style, taking into account any dietary restrictions you indicated in your booking.
For safety reasons and due to limited space on the boat, only a backpack and one small handbag are allowed when entering the jungle. Larger luggage can be left at our office in Iquitos at no extra cost.
Transfers are included for flights arriving before 9:00 am and flights departing after 6:30 pm. Other flight times are subject to availability. Please contact us in advance so we can help guide you in choosing the right schedule.
