Oxapampa 2-Day Exploration

Day 1: La Merced - Oxapampa - Pozuzo

Your adventure begins at 8 am with a pick-up from your hotel in La Merced as we set off towards the captivating Oxapampa region. Our initial destination will be Oxapampa, the capital of the area. This charming town showcases its unique heritage through its wooden architecture and structures designed in the Tyrolean style, including the historic Church of Santa Rosa.

Next, we will journey through the picturesque valley to visit the Huarapo farm, an agricultural estate renowned for its production of sugar cane brandy. Here, you will have the opportunity to sample some of the products created on the farm.

Continuing our exploration, we will delve into the local culture with visits to a trout farm and a dairy facility. After this enlightening experience, you will have some free time to enjoy lunch before we proceed to Pozuzo. During our journey, take in the striking views of notable landmarks like the Rayantambo and Yuliqunti waterfalls, along with the expansive Yanachanga National Park, recognized for its vital wetlands.

Upon arrival in Pozuzo, we'll check into our accommodations and allow time for relaxation.

Day 2: Pozuzo - La Merced

The second day commences with a delightful breakfast at our lodging, fueling us for another day full of discovery. Our first stop will be a guided tour of Pozuzo, where we will visit the historic Church of San José, established by early settlers in 1875.

In front of this church stands a monument honoring the colony's founder, Father Joseph Egg. We will then stroll through Pozuzo's main square, observing the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Francisco Shafferer Museum, which showcases artifacts brought by the region's first European inhabitants.

Our next destination is the Emperor Wilhelm I suspension bridge, constructed in 1877, and we will admire the array of buildings exhibiting European architectural styles, including the Budweiser house, the House of Culture, and the District Municipality.

We will next explore the local cemetery before taking a break for lunch. Following our meal, we will make our way back to La Merced, with a return to your hotel scheduled between 5 and 6 pm.
