Philip V, the inaugural Spanish monarch of the Bourbon line, initiated the construction of the Palacio de Oriente where the old Alcázar once stood. The first royal occupant was Charles III. While it continues to serve as the official residence for the Spanish Royal Family, it is now primarily utilized for formal ceremonies and events.

Ticket Options

When you book, you may select from the following choices:

• Royal Palace Ticket: This allows access to the primary areas of the palace as previously described. Please be aware that entry is only permitted at the time indicated on your ticket; no access will be given at other times.
• Royal Palace + Gallery of the Royal Collections: This option provides access to the palace as well as an exhibition featuring 650 items, including artifacts from the Arab wall of Madrid and various pieces of furniture. Note that the entry time on your ticket pertains specifically to the Royal Palace visit. The ticket for the Gallery is valid for any time within seven days following your palace visit but cannot be used during free entry hours from Monday to Thursday, 6 pm to 8 pm.
• Royal Palace + Kitchen: This includes a tour of both the palace and the kitchen, notable for its size, historical significance, and valuable artifacts. Few palaces in Europe have managed to preserve such a space! Its current design is the result of renovations completed between 1760 and 1931. Please note that while access to the Royal Palace is unaccompanied, the kitchen visit is guided. The time selected will accordingly apply to your visit to the Royal Kitchen, with the option to explore the rest of the palace either before or after.

Fare Info

The available ticket prices are:

• Basic fare: applicable for adults.
• Reduced fare: available for children aged 5 to 16, seniors over 65, and students up to 25 years old.
• Free admission: offered to the unemployed, individuals with disabilities, members of large families, and children under 5, except for the Kitchen visit option.

Keep in mind that these rates are higher than on-site ticket prices, as they include a handling fee ranging from 1 EUR to 6 EUR per person. This ensures you a reservation and eliminates the need for queuing. However, even without waiting in line, a security check is still required.

Madrid Royal Palace Opening Hours

The following hours of operation apply:

• October to March: Open Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm, and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm
• April to September: Open Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 7 pm, and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm
• Ticket desks close, and last admission occurs one hour prior to closing.

Free Admission

Free entry is available during these times:

• October to March: Monday to Thursday, from 4 pm to 6 pm
• April to September: Monday to Thursday, from 5 pm to 7 pm

Note: Access to the Royal Kitchen (Real Cocina) and the Royal Pharmacy (Real Botica) is restricted during the free entry times.
