Excursion to Villa El Chocón + Paleontological Museum

Description

Your journey begins at 9 am with a pickup from your hotel in Neuquén, followed by a scenic drive of approximately an hour south to Villa El Chocón.

Upon arrival, we will commence a tour of the town to uncover its key highlights. The first stop will be the viewpoint overlooking Lake Exequiel Ramos Mejía, offering magnificent views of the dam responsible for hydroelectric power in a large segment of Argentina.

Following this, we will proceed to the center of Villa El Chocón, where you will have some leisure time for personal exploration. Those interested may opt for a guided excursion to Cañadón Escondido, featuring a captivating trekking route through a striking ravine.

After reconvening at the designated time in the town center, we will embark on a guided visit to the Ernesto Bachmann Paleontological Museum. Here, you will encounter the extraordinary skeleton of Giganotosaurus Carolini, recognized as the largest carnivorous dinosaur discovered to date. Prepare to be astonished by this magnificent creature!

Post museum tour, enjoy an hour of free time for lunch in El Chocón. After our meal, we will return to your hotel in Neuquén, expected to arrive around 3 pm.

Villa El Chocón & Plaza Huincul (8 hours)

If you wish to enhance your adventure, this option extends the excursion by following the same itinerary as before. After your personal lunch in Villa El Chocón, the journey continues to Plaza Huincul. In this town, we will visit the Carmen Funes Paleontological Museum, showcasing the skeleton of Argentinosaurus Huinculensis, noted as the largest herbivore identified to date.

Concluding the museum tour, we will head to an agritourism center for a refreshing snack. Finally, we will wrap up the excursion and make our way back to Neuquén, arriving at your hotel around 5 pm.
