Why Explore the Basilica of Saint-Denis?
With its pointed arches, rib-vaulted ceilings, and exquisite stained glass, the Basilica of Saint-Denis embodies the defining traits of Gothic architecture. This historical abbey marks the inception of a style that flourished across Western Europe from the 12th to the 15th centuries.
Your ticket grants access to the Basilica of Saint-Denis, inviting you to wander through its impressive interior at a leisurely pace. Home to the Royal necropolis, this cathedral serves as the final resting place for numerous significant French monarchs, whose elaborate tombs are definitely worth viewing. Don't overlook the memorials of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, the royals whose fates were pivotal events in the French Revolution.
Beyond the sculptural masterpieces present in the Basilica, you'll be enthralled by the breathtaking stained glass windows, particularly the renowned rose window, which contributes to the cathedral's vibrant illumination as light filters through.
Make sure to visit other highlights of the Basilica, including the organ, choir, and the adjacent chapels. To enrich your experience, we recommend stopping by the Fabrique de la flèche, located at the foot of the monument, where you can uncover the fascinating history surrounding the Basilica's construction.
