Itinerary Overview
Day 1: Arrival in Bhutan - Thimphu
Upon landing at Paro Airport, you will be welcomed and transferred to Thimphu, Bhutan's vibrant capital. This one-hour scenic drive offers a glimpse of the stunning landscape.
If time allows, we will visit the renowned Tashichoe Dzong Fortress. Additional stops may be incorporated based on your arrival schedule, all included in the tour package.
Day 2: Thimphu
Following a hearty breakfast, we will kick off the day with a visit to the impressive National Memorial Chorten, dedicated to Bhutan’s third king. Our next stops include the towering golden Dordenma Buddha, the National Library, and a workshop specializing in traditional paper-making, immersing you in authentic Bhutanese culture.
A visit to the Takin Reserve will provide an opportunity to see this distinctive species, along with other local wildlife. After a savory local lunch, you will have free time to discover the city at your leisure before returning to your hotel to unwind.
Day 3: Thimphu - Punakha
After breakfast, we will set off from Thimphu towards the picturesque Punakha Valley. En route, enjoy the breathtaking mountain views, adorned with vibrant prayer flags and the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens. We'll also pass through the serene Royal Botanical Park of Lamperi and visit the Chimi Lhakhang temple in the village of Lobesa.
During our time at the temple, you'll learn about the intriguing figure of Lama Drukpa Kunley, known as one of the "divine madmen" of Tibetan Buddhism, famous for his compelling and controversial teachings. This temple is also frequented by women seeking blessings for motherhood.
Our day concludes in Punakha, where you can relax and prepare for the next part of your adventure.
Day 4: Punakha
After an early breakfast, we’ll venture north to the Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten, with a brief stop at a nunnery located on top of Walakha Hill.
Upon arrival at the Chorten, we’ll take a scenic 45-minute hike across a suspension bridge over verdant rice fields to reach this striking structure. Following this, we’ll visit Punakha Dzong, aptly named the Palace of Happiness, which gracefully rests at the confluence of the Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers.
We will wrap up the day in Wangdiphodrang, where you’ll have the chance to explore the Dzong and the bustling local market, showcasing beautiful bamboo, slate, and stone-carved crafts, providing a genuine insight into everyday local life. You will then return to your Punakha hotel for the night.
Day 5: Punakha - Phobijkha
Following breakfast, we will make our way to Phobjikha, a picturesque valley situated approximately 3,000 meters (9,843 feet) above sea level. Upon arrival, you will be enchanted by its stunning landscapes and visit the impressive Gangtey Gonpa, an important temple in Nyingmapa Buddhism.
After touring the temple, we will hike through the scenic Phobjikha Valley, renowned for its black-necked cranes that migrate here from Tibet. As we wander through vibrant oak and azalea forests, you’ll be treated to incredible views of the surrounding area.
Day 6: Phobijkha - Paro
After a fulfilling breakfast, we will head towards Paro, stopping at the stunning Dochula Pass along the way. We will also take a moment to visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in Bhutan, constructed in 1627, where we’ll learn about its historical significance and current function as the School of Buddhist Studies.
Upon reaching Paro, you will be dropped off at your hotel to relax and enjoy the rest of the day.
Day 7: Paro
Our final day features one of the most iconic experiences. After breakfast, we will embark on a hike to the famed Tiger’s Nest, also known as Taktshang Monastery, positioned 900 meters above the valley. Although the hike may take between 2 to 3 hours and poses some challenges, the spectacular views awaiting you will make it worthwhile.
After the hike, we will return to Paro, allowing you the afternoon to explore the town at your own pace.
Day 8: Departure
After breakfast, we will take you to Paro Airport, bidding you farewell and wishing you a safe journey home.
