Have you ever ventured into an ancient mine? This tour invites you to discover the Maestrazgo Mining Park and the Templar village of Culla, both essential destinations within the Castellón province!

Excursion to Maestrazgo Mining Park & Culla

Your adventure begins with a pickup from the Tourist Office in Peñíscola at 8:10 am, followed by a minibus journey to the Alto Maestrazgo area. After approximately an hour of travel, we will reach the Maestrazgo Mining Park, where you will delve into the life of a miner.

Aboard the mining train, we will embark on our first exploration of the underground galleries, specifically the Victoria mine. As we navigate these passages, informative videos and the guide’s insights will illustrate the historical workings of these mines. You'll observe authentic mining carts and an array of tools that date back centuries.

Following this, we will proceed to the Esperanza mine, where we will uncover the minerals that were extracted from this eastern region, with a focus on the geological conditions of the mines. Look out for tree roots breaking through the rocky walls, natural pools, and ancient stalactites.

After our underground experience, we will reconvene at the minibus and travel to Culla. This storied town was among the last strongholds captured by the Templars. Here, we will examine the Templar heritage of Culla and explore its notable landmarks, including the impressive 11th-century castle, the granary of the Commander, and the former hospital.

Our day concludes as we head back to Peñíscola, with an expected arrival time of 2:15 pm.
