Tour Overview

Your journey begins with a pickup from your hotel in Saly at the designated time. We will embark on a scenic route stretching 50 miles along Senegal's northern coastline. After approximately an hour and a half of travel, we will reach Lac Rose, famously referred to as the Pink Lake due to its strikingly vibrant waters.

During our transit, you will gain insights into the fascinating reasons behind the unique pink hue of the lake's water, attributed to its high salt concentration and the presence of microscopic algae. The salinity in this lake is about ten times greater than that of the sea, making it a popular spot for locals who utilize traditional methods to harvest salt.

Once we arrive, we will transition to a 4x4 vehicle, which will navigate around the lake's picturesque landscape. Here, you will encounter stunning sand dunes that lie between the lake and the ocean, as well as explore the historic location that served as the final stage of the Paris-Dakar Rally until 2008.

Following the ATV adventure, you will have the chance to experience the sensation of floating in the saline waters of the lake, enhancing your visit with this unique activity. Afterward, we will return to the starting point and board our bus for the journey back to your hotel in Saly.

Swimming in Lac Rose

If time permits, you will have 15 minutes to enjoy a swim in the Pink Lake. Be sure to pack your swimsuit if you wish to take part in this relaxing experience!

Important Information

As of summer 2024, due to significant rainfall, the lake has retained excess water and has temporarily lost its vibrant color. While salt extraction and other activities have resumed, it remains uncertain when the lake will regain its iconic pink appearance.
