Wander through the magnificent stone stronghold of Aigues-Mortes at your leisure and delve into the rich history of Medieval France. Erected in the 13th century, these historically significant walls served as the launching point for the French Crusades, and they have remarkably endured through the centuries.
The fortifications of Aigues-Mortes consist of over 5,300 feet (1,634 meters) of robust defensive walls that link twenty distinctive towers. Among them, the Tour de Saint Louise and the Tour de Constance stand out, both notable for their historical use as places of imprisonment for French Protestants during the 17th century.
Visiting Hours
The Aigues-Mortes fortress welcomes visitors every day with the following schedule:
- From May 2 to August 31: 10 am to 7:00 pm
- From September 1 to April 30: 10 am to 5:30 pm
The last entry is permitted until 45 minutes before closing time.
Ticket office hours are available from 10 am to 1:00 pm and from 2 pm to 4:45 pm.
Please be aware that these times may vary and are subject to alteration.
Special Dates
On December 24 and 31, the monument will close early at 2:30 pm.
Complimentary Admission
Admission to the Medieval towers and ramparts of Aigues-Mortes is complimentary for the following visitors:
- Young individuals from the European Union aged 18 to 25 years
- Children under 18 years, regardless of nationality
Additionally, entry is free for all on the first Sunday of each month from January through March, and from November through December. Free admission is also offered on the third weekend in September.
To obtain the free admission offered above, please visit the site’s ticket office and present a valid document confirming your eligibility for a complimentary ticket.

Free Admission
Admission to the Arc the Medieval towers and ramparts of Aigues-Mortes is free for the following individuals:
- Young people from the European Union between 18 and 25 years old
- Children under 18 years old, regardless of their nationality
Admission is free for everyone on the first Sunday of the month between January 1 and March 31, and between November 1 and December 31. It is also free to enter on the 3rd weekend in September.
In order to acquire the free admission mentioned above, you'll have to go to the site’s ticket office and present a certifying document of your eligibility for a free ticket.
Ticket Validity
The ticket will be valid for 7 days from the date indicated on the voucher.
