Explore the enchanting landscapes of central Crete on this exciting journey starting from Malia. Your adventure will take you to the Odigitria Monastery, through the stunning Agiofarago Gorge, and to the historic site of Matala, once a haven for hippies.

Jeep Safari to Agiofarago, Matala & Odigitria

Your day begins at 8 am with a pickup from your accommodation in Malia. Board a jeep and set off to explore the hidden gems of Crete.

As we drive through picturesque vineyards, you will gain insight into the various grape types cultivated for local wines. Our journey first leads us to Agios Thomas, a quaint village perched at an elevation of 760 meters (2493 ft). Here, you'll be treated to breathtaking views and have the opportunity to explore historic churches, remnants of Byzantine aqueducts, and Roman-era tombs.

Continuing our exploration, we'll head towards the Messara Valley, traversing olive groves en route to Odigitria Monastery, a notable 14th-century site. Upon arrival, take in the striking architecture before delving into the museum to uncover artifacts that portray the traditional Cretan way of life.

Next, we will arrive at Agiofarago Gorge. After parking at the entrance, we’ll embark on a scenic walk through the gorge, marveling at the surrounding natural beauty. A 20-minute trek will lead us to Agiofarago beach, where you can enjoy a refreshing swim in its crystal-clear waters. Following this, a lunch break at a local eatery will treat you to a delightful menu featuring a main dish, salad, and dessert.

Our final destination is the charming village of Matala, known for its history with hippies in the 1970s. Here, you'll have the chance to wander freely, soaking in the village's unique atmosphere and attractions.

As the day concludes, we will regroup for the return journey to Malia, where you will be dropped off at your hotel around 4 pm.
