Páramo de Sumapaz Trip
Description
The Páramo de Sumapaz is renowned as the largest páramo ecosystem globally. Join this day trip from Bogotá to experience the majesty of this unique moorland.
Description
Prepare for an adventurous day beginning at the Cranky Croc Hostel as we depart from the vibrant streets of Bogotá towards the magnificent Páramo de Sumapaz. Before diving into our exploration, we’ll pause to enjoy a traditional breakfast that will energize us for the day’s activities.
As we arrive at our destination, prepare to be amazed by the vastness of the world’s largest moorland, elevated at over 3500 meters (11,500 feet)! Stretching across nearly half a million acres, this ecological marvel is rich with distinctive plant and animal species. Keep an eye out for Andean bears, deer, eagles, condors, and other fascinating wildlife inhabiting this high-altitude environment. We’ll embark on a hiking experience, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the stunning surroundings.
Beyond its breathtaking landscapes, Sumapaz is infused with indigenous traditions that have been preserved for centuries. You’ll be captivated as we reveal the ancient customs and practices that existed in this region long before the arrival of Spanish colonizers.
We will make stops at two spectacular viewpoints, granting us sweeping views of the Frailejones Valley and the glacial lagoons nestled within the páramo. Following our exploration, a stop at a farmhouse will allow us to enjoy some refreshing fruit snacks and recharge for the journey back.
As our remarkable day concludes, we will guide you back to our starting point in Bogotá, approximately eight hours after our initial departure.
