Choquelimpie Mountain Hike

Embark on a journey through the stunning landscapes of the Chilean Altiplano as you ascend the majestic Choquelimpie Mountain from Putre. This expedition leads you to one of the most breathtaking peaks in the Andean foothills of northern Chile.

Hike to Choquelimpie Mountain

Your adventure begins with a pickup from your accommodation in Putre between 7 and 8 am, followed by a scenic drive towards Choquelimpie. Nestled in the Andean foothills, this impressive mountain is situated in the heart of the Chilean Altiplano.

Upon arriving at the base, we’ll embark on a demanding hiking journey lasting approximately 7 to 8 hours. The effort will pay off handsomely as we reach the 17,500-foot (5,353-meter) summit, where we can soak in the breathtaking vistas.

From the summit of Choquelimpie, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of Chungará Lake and the Parinacota Volcano, which serves as a natural divider between Chile and Bolivia. Additionally, the surrounding peaks, including Guane Guane and Gullatiri Volcano, will come into view. Notably, the term "Gullatiri" translates to "abundance of wallatas," a goose native to the Andes, in the Aymara language.

We'll take a moment to rest, enjoy the scenery, and indulge in a delightful picnic lunch, featuring sandwiches, dried fruits, chocolates, and natural juices. After our meal, we will begin our descent back to the trail's origin.

Returning to your hotel in Putre, you'll arrive between 3 and 6 pm, depending on our pace during the hike.
