Your adventure begins with a pick-up at your hotel in Ascea, from where we will travel by bus to Matera. Are you prepared to delve into one of the most stunning and popular destinations in southern Italy?

Upon arrival, we will disembark and commence our exploration of the historic center of Matera, which stands as one of the oldest in existence! Our journey will take us through the iconic Sassi di Matera, the ancient neighborhoods hewn from the rocky escarpments of the Murgia Materana. These areas have a fascinating history, having been populated since the Paleolithic era.

We will wander through the districts of Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso, uncovering the captivating sites of this World Heritage city. Throughout our guided exploration, we will share insights into the formation of these districts and their historical transformations.

Highlighting our tour are visits to the Church of Santa Chiara, the Church of San Francesco d'Assisi, and the Cathedral of Matera, all displaying Apulian Romanesque architecture.

Following our guided tour, you'll have the opportunity to savor local delicacies during your personal lunch break. Afterward, if you wish, you can visit some of Matera's stunning rock churches (entrance not included), such as the Church of San Pietro Barisano, the Church of Santa Maria di Idris, and the Church of Santa Lucia alle Malve. Each of these sites promises to be a remarkable experience!

As we wrap up our excursion, we'll return to our bus for the ride back, concluding our memorable day approximately twelve hours after our departure.
