2-Day Delphi and Meteora Trip
Description
Embark on an exceptional two-day journey from Athens to explore two of Greece's most breathtaking regions: Delphi, regarded as the historical center of the world in antiquity, and Meteora, famous for its remarkable old monasteries set atop towering cliffs.
Trip Overview
Day 1
Your adventure begins with a comfortable coach ride from your accommodation, whisking you away to Delphi, known to the ancient Greeks as the world's “naval” point. Arriving around noon, you'll delve into one of Greece's most captivating archaeological sites, proudly recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Following your exploration of the Temple of Apollo, board the bus for a scenic ride northward. Traverse the towns of Lamia and Trikala until you arrive in Kalambaka, a charming village located near Meteora, renowned for its soaring sandstone cliffs that shelter a collection of Orthodox monasteries. Enjoy a restful night in this idyllic village.
Day 2
Rise early on the second day to take in the stunning vistas of Meteora, a striking panorama comprising numerous sandstone spires, remnants of an ancient seabed from thirty million years ago, now regarded as one of Greece's most exceptional locales.
Upon arrival, you will visit two monasteries perched atop these monumental cliffs. The monasteries scheduled for your visit include Megalo Meteoro, the first established abbey in the Meteora complex, and St. Stephen’s Monastery. Depending on accessibility and opening hours, additional monasteries may also be explored.
After an enlightening guided tour of these significant sites, you will return to Athens. Before reaching the capital, there will be a stop at Thermopylae to view the statue of King Leonidas.
Your bus is expected to arrive back in Athens around 7 PM. The tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel or in the heart of the city, based on your preference.
