Santo Domingo Full-Day Trip
Description
Explore the first city ever established in the Americas while indulging in local culinary delights on this guided excursion through the iconic landmarks of Santo Domingo.
Day Trip Overview
At the designated time, you'll be collected from your accommodation to embark on a journey westward towards Santo Domingo. After approximately 90 minutes of travel, you will reach the Dominican Republic's capital, where your guided exploration of its principal attractions will commence.
Your adventure kicks off at Los Tres Ojos Cave, situated close to the well-known freshwater lagoons. Following this, you'll observe the exterior of the Columbus Lighthouse, believed to house the remains of the famed navigator from Genoa.
Next, we will visit the exterior of the Presidential Palace, one of the city’s most recognizable structures, known for its neoclassical design. Afterward, you'll step inside the Basilica Cathedral of Santa María la Menor, otherwise referred to as the Catedral Primada de América. This cathedral holds the distinction of being the oldest in the Americas.
Post visit to the cathedral, we will meander along Las Damas Street, where you can see the first stone house built in the New World. We will also tour the National Pantheon, the final resting place of various notable historical figures of the nation. As we continue, a stroll through Plaza de España will lead us to the Alcázar de Colon, where the admiral once resided.
During the day, we’ll also make a stop at a gift shop, showcasing items crafted from Larimar, a semi-precious stone found exclusively in the Dominican Republic.
If you're feeling hungry, you'll enjoy some free time to savor a sumptuous buffet lunch featuring traditional dishes like rice, meat stew, and beans. After your meal, a visit to the boardwalk will offer picturesque views of the Caribbean Sea. Finally, we will regroup for your return trip to your accommodation, which will conclude around 11.5 hours after the start of the tour.
