Beijing Free Walking Tour
Description
Upon your arrival in Beijing, if you seek to immerse yourself in the historical significance and key landmarks of the city, this complimentary walking tour is highly recommended. It’s an experience not to be overlooked!
Tour Details
Welcome to the heart of China! We will convene at Exit D of the Hugangquaio Metro Station at the arranged hour to embark on this complimentary walking tour that will guide us through the key attractions of Beijing. Let’s commence!
During our journey, you will discover how Beijing transitioned from an ancient walled city into the political hub of the nation, while also emerging as a prominent cultural site and vast metropolis.
Our first stop will be one of the city’s most historic theatres, where we will delve into the rich traditions of the Beijing Opera, recognized as an intangible cultural heritage.
Next, we’ll stroll to the charming hutongs, which are the traditional narrow pathways found within the historical areas of northern Chinese cities. Here, we'll explore one such hutong to uncover the intriguing Mongol influence on Beijing. Additionally, we’ll visit a lovely courtyard that showcases important cultural symbols of the city. In this local space, partake in a complimentary Chinese calligraphy session, allowing you to learn to write the characters. You'll leave with your handwritten sheet as a memorable keepsake!
Afterward, we will arrive at the Hutong Market, granting you some free time to sample local delicacies if you choose. Once recharged, we’ll proceed along Yangmei Old Street, providing opportunities to explore its artisanal shops and gain insights into the evolution of Beijing's urban structure.
Our tour continues as we make our way down Dashilar Street, a prominent commercial area in Beijing. Here, we’ll reflect on the rich history of Chinese commerce. We will then navigate through the narrowest hutong in the city leading us to Qianmen Street.
Close by, we will encounter Beijing's Central Axis, a recognized World Heritage Site. You will feel the significance of standing on one of the main lines that interconnects major monuments throughout Beijing, including imperial palaces, gardens, and ceremonial structures that illustrate the city’s historical development.
In conclusion, we will observe the exterior of the Zhengyangmen Gate's Archery Tower, located near Tiananmen Square. We will explore the vicinity, marking the culmination of this complimentary walking tour after approximately 3.5 hours.
