Bogotá War & Peace History Tour
Are you interested in uncovering the historical context of Colombia's armed conflict with the guidance of a local expert? We will convene at 10 am outside the Gold Museum, where we will commence our examination of the most troubling episodes in Bogotá's modern history.
Our journey will take us to significant locations throughout the capital, each marked by past episodes of violence, narcotics, and firearm-related issues. Fortunately, the landscape has shifted dramatically. To gain a deeper understanding of the armed conflict, we will explore its roots and the present circumstances within the nation.
As we partake in this enriching experience, we will discuss the political ideologies that characterize the differences between liberals and conservatives. We will also recognize the key political figures who have shaped the discourse in Colombia, including Jorge Eliécer Gaitán, a prominent leader of the Liberal Party. His assassination on April 9, 1948, triggered widespread disturbances known as the Bogotazo.
While strolling through the heart of Colombia's capital, we will investigate the contrasts between Liberal guerrilla factions and paramilitary groups. Additionally, we’ll examine the landmark peace agreements signed between FARC and ELN.
After a thorough exploration of the underlying factors of the Colombian armed conflict, we will conclude our tour at 1 pm in front of the Teatro Colón in Bogotá.
