After a convenient pick-up from your accommodation at 9:30 am, we will commence our adventure to Cumbemayo. This heritage site features a remarkable collection of towering stone monoliths, referred to as frailones. Studies suggest that the establishment of this enigmatic location dates back to approximately 1000 BC, making it an impressive landmark that has stood for more than 3,000 years.

Our exploration will start at the Cumbemayo Aqueduct, renowned as a significant feat of hydraulic engineering from the pre-Columbian era. Notably, water continues to flow through its 6-mile (9-kilometre) length. We will examine the aqueduct’s intended role, a subject that still puzzles researchers today.

Interestingly, given that the Cajamarca region possessed ample water resources, the presence of an aqueduct may seem redundant. Historians suggest that its true significance may relate to the sanctuary, a colossal boulder resembling a human head where human sacrifices were historically performed. Additionally, we will uncover the nearby caves adorned with engraved rocks, whose meanings remain a mystery.

On our way back to your hotel, a stop at the Bellavista viewpoint will provide you with stunning panoramas of the Cajamarca Valley, further enriching your experience.
