Excursion to Lake Sausacocha & Wiracochapampa

The adventure commences with a 5 am pickup from your accommodation in Cajamarca. Our journey will take approximately three hours as we traverse the expansive plains of northern Peru, with a pause for breakfast in the town of Cajabamba.

Upon reaching our destination, we will initiate our exploration at Lake Sausacocha, a vital wetland embraced by gently sloping hills. Notably, the term Sausacocha is derived from the Inca phrase "sawsaqucha", which translates to "eternal lagoon".

Guests will enjoy a 90-minute interlude for lunch, during which you can wander around the lagoon or partake in a scenic boat ride. Following this delightful break, we will proceed to the archaeological site of Wiracochapampa, delving into its intriguing legends and historical importance.

The ruins, originally attributed to the Wari civilization, which significantly influenced the Andean culture, showcase impressive trapezoidal architectures featuring walls soaring up to 20 meters. As we explore the site, you will also appreciate the meticulous design of its squares and courtyards.

After concluding our visit, we will make our way back to Cajamarca, with an expected arrival at your hotel by 9:30 pm.
