Crab Fishing in the Cartagena Mangroves
Description
Embark on a mangrove crab fishing experience in Cartagena, where you'll explore various methods for catching these elusive crustaceans in the Caribbean waters of Colombia.
Crab Fishing Adventure in Cartagena's Mangroves
At the designated time, we'll gather either at your accommodation or at 101st Street in La Boquilla. From there, we will venture towards the coast, where we'll board a canoe to navigate through the mangroves.
This region is famed for its historic fishing methods. You will learn about traditional tools, including nets, traps, and ropes, as locals demonstrate the use of specialized gear like the trammel net.
As we glide through the serene mangroves, we will share insights into the distinct features of this fascinating ecosystem. Our journey will lead us to the Ciénega de la Virgen, a vibrant lagoon teeming with wildlife, where you'll have the opportunity to catch crabs using a net.
Alongside crabs, keep an eye out for other local species such as sea bass, shad, or mojarra, as well as sea snails, shrimp, and lobsters. Before we continue, we can pause on a small island nearby. Would you like to encounter a Colombian raccoon or explore a fish farm?
After a fruitful day of fishing, we'll head back to the mainland for a delicious meal featuring crabs, fish, rice, and fried plantain. A refreshing drink will also be served to complement your lunch.
Your crab fishing experience in Cartagena's mangroves will conclude approximately four to five hours after we set out.
