Fundación Loros Tour + Off-Roading Tour

For those who appreciate nature and wildlife, an enriching visit to the Loros Foundation awaits. This experience promises encounters with macaws, parakeets, and various other exotic species.

Activity Overview

We will pick you up from your accommodation at the scheduled time, embarking on a journey to Villanueva, located 35 km (21 mi) from Cartagena de Indias. This town houses the Loros Foundation, an initiative focused on the preservation of parrots,macaws, and parakeets native to Colombia.

The efforts of this foundation play a crucial role in safeguarding these avian species, many of which face threats from habitat destruction and illegal wildlife trade. Throughout this experience, participants will gain insights into the fascinating rehabilitation process and the eventual release of these birds.

The day will kick off with an introductory talk beside the lake within the reserve, accompanied by a traditional Colombian breakfast that includes an arepa and a refreshing drink. Following this informative session, we will assist in preparing food for and feeding some of the recovering birds, creating memorable moments.

Next, we will embark on an exciting 15 km (9.3 mi) trek along the trails of the reserve, which encompasses 1000 acres (404 hectares) of tropical dry forest. As we traverse the area, we will observe a diverse array of parrots, macaws, and additional exotic birds. There’s also the chance of spotting local wildlife such as monkeys and cows.

At one segment of our adventure, we will take a break to explore the fields of cassava, yam, and corn, where we’ll meet the hospitable farmers dedicated to preserving the agricultural heritage of the region. Here, a refreshing beverage will be available before we make our way back.

The experience draws to a close with a return to your hotel after approximately 6 hours of exploration.

Available Travel Options

When booking, you will have the choice among 3 options tailored to your preferred mode of transport through the reserve's trails. The choices include traveling on horseback, via a quad bike, or in an off-road vehicle. Regardless of your selection, the itinerary remains unchanged.

It’s important to note that while you cannot operate the quad bike or off-road vehicle, a guide will be in control of the vehicle. If you opt for horseback riding, prior experience is not necessary; however, the maximum weight limit for this option is 110 kg (242 lbs).
