Join us on an adventure to the Totumo Volcano and the mangroves near Cartagena de Indias, where you will explore two of the most remarkable natural sites in Colombia's Bolivar region.

Totumo Volcano & Cartagena Mangroves Exploration

We will begin our journey with a pickup from your accommodation in Cartagena de Indias at the scheduled time. Our first destination will be the Totumo Volcano, where you can immerse yourself in a therapeutic mud bath – an experience unlike any other!

You might wonder what makes this destination so unique. The Totumo Volcano is rich in mud, which the local communities have long regarded as "healing mud," owing to its beneficial nutritional properties. This is attributed to its natural composition, containing elements like water, silica, aluminum, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron, and various minerals.

As you enter the volcano's crater, you will immediately feel the warmth and density of the thick mud enveloping you, offering skin toning benefits. Please be aware that the optimal duration for enjoying the mud is approximately 15 minutes, as prolonging your stay is not advised due to the warm temperatures. After your mud bath, you will have the chance to relax in the surrounding Totumo swamp.

To fuel our adventure, we will enjoy a delicious local lunch featuring diverse regional dishes. Following our meal, we’ll proceed to La Boquilla for an exploration of the mangroves surrounding Cartagena. During this exploration, we'll discover various species of flora and fauna that thrive in this exceptional ecosystem.

Our journey will then take us to the Ciénaga de la Virgen, a swamp where we will embark on a canoe trip to explore the intricate mangrove tunnels. Here, you will also engage in a hands-on experience utilizing an artisanal fishing technique, known as atarraya, and visit the scenic Isla del Pescador to savor some refreshing coconut water.

At the end of the day, we will make our way back to Cartagena, with an expected arrival time at your hotel approximately eight hours after the initial pickup.

Pickup Information

This excursion includes pickup from hotels located in the popular tourist districts: Castillogrande, Bocagrande, El Laguito, Crespo, Marbella, Morros (north zone), and the historic center. If your accommodation lies outside these areas, you are welcome to meet us directly at the Clock Tower Monument in Boca del Puente at the designated time.
