Details of the Tour

On the designated day, we will depart from Cartagena and travel northward to El Totumo volcano, which boasts a height of 15 meters (49 feet) and houses a pool of beneficial mud at its summit.

The volcano, alongside its basic amenities, is cared for by community members who will guide us up the stairway to the peak. Upon arrival, we will be greeted by a stunning landscape, with the Totumo lagoon serving as a picturesque backdrop. As we enter the mud crater, you will find it impossible to sink, even though it may appear to lack a solid base.

According to local lore, El Totumo was once an active volcano that erupted flames until a priest, believing it was the work of the Devil, doused it with holy water.

Upon entering, you will soon realize that you have stepped into mud, not lava, allowing you to apply mineral-rich clay to your skin. After enjoying the soothing properties of the warm mud bath, a rinse with fresh water will help you cleanse off.

Feeling rejuvenated and with noticeably softer skin, we will begin our return trip to Cartagena, with an estimated arrival time of 5 hours after we set off.
