Best of Cantabria Day Trip
Description
Interested in exploring the top attractions of Cantabria? This excursion offers you the opportunity to visit Comillas, Gaudí's Capricho, Santillana del Mar, and the stunning Bosque de Secuoyas.
Activity Overview
We will kick off this exploration of the finest sights in Cantabria at the designated time.
After gathering the group, we will board a bus and depart from the Cantabrian capital. Our first destination will be the Bosque de Secuoyas, a mesmerizing redwood forest located in Cabezón de la Sal. You will be captivated by this natural wonder upon arrival, renowned for its breathtaking vistas that make it one of the region's most photographed sites.
During our one-hour visit, we will meander along the extensive pathways, where colossal trees can reach heights of up to 40 m (131 ft) and diameters of 2 m (6.5 ft). Did you know this is recognized as the largest sequoia forest in Spain?
Once our time there is concluded, we will return to the minibus and proceed to Comillas, a town celebrated for its remarkable architectural heritage. Upon arrival, we will first explore Gaudí's Capricho, one of the Catalan artist's most inventive creations, also referred to as Villa Quijano. Here, we will delve into this residence from Gaudí’s Orientalist era, where you will be astonished by its artificial grottoes, lush gardens, and ornately designed rooms.
Without departing from Comillas, a guided tour of half an hour will take us through its historic center, where we will uncover notable highlights, including the s sculpture of the Exterminating Angel and the fuente de los Tres Caños, the fountain featuring Three Spouts. Following the tour, you’ll have 3 hours of leisure time to further explore the town and enjoy lunch at a local eatery.
Next, we will head towards another outstanding location in Cantabria, Santillana del Mar. We will engage in an hour-long stroll through the old quarter, admiring its most significant landmarks, such as the Palacio de Velarde, the Torre del Merino, the Torre de Don Borja, and the Collegiate Church of Santa Juliana.
As our day wraps up, we’ll make our way back to the original meeting point and bid farewell after a fulfilling 10-hour journey.
