Day Trip to Tatacoa Desert + Stargazing

Prepare to be enchanted by a stunning sunset in the Tatacoa Desert, recognized as the second-largest arid region in Colombia, during this excursion from Villavieja. As darkness envelops the landscape, you will witness thousands of stars lighting up the expansive desert sky!

Day Trip Overview

At the scheduled time, we will collect you from your accommodation in Villavieja. Following this, our journey to the Tatacoa Desert will begin, offering a remarkable experience through this exceptional tropical dry forest, which is deemed among the finest locations for stargazing globally.

Our initial destination will be the Red Desert, characterized by its ochre-hued rock formations situated near a town named Cuzco. This extraordinary setting will serve as an ideal backdrop for photos that evoke images of otherworldly landscapes. The feeling will be akin to standing on Mars!

Continuing our adventure, we shall proceed to the Gray Desert, where we will explore the Valle de los Fantasmas (Phantom Valley). Here, we will meander along a winding route encompassed by dunes and labyrinthine ravines that descend up to 65 feet (20 meters). As twilight approaches, the surroundings will evoke a lunar-like experience!

Next, we will stop by the Desert Oasis natural pool, offering you an opportunity to cool off with a refreshing swim or enjoy a slushy beverage or fresh juice.

Finally, we will conclude the day by appreciating the stunning view of the celestial dome from the Tatacoa Astronomical Observatory, where an introduction to constellations, stars, the moon, and various celestial phenomena awaits.

After 8 hours filled with exploration in the Tatacoa Desert, we will return you to your hotel in Villavieja.
