Godafoss Waterfall & Lake Mývatn Shore Excursion
Description
For those arriving in Akureyri via cruise, experiencing the breathtaking Godafoss Waterfall and Lake Mývatn is essential when exploring northern Iceland. This journey is truly unmissable!
Excursion to Godafoss Waterfall & Lake Mývatn
At the scheduled hour, we will convene at the Akureyri cruise terminal to commence our adventure towards Godafoss Waterfall and Lake Mývatn. Together, we will explore two of the most impressive natural landmarks in this region of Iceland!
The route will take us along the scenic Eyjafjordur coast. Our first destination is the remarkable Godafoss Waterfall, renowned as one of the most stunning waterfalls in the nation. You will quickly understand why it bears the title of the "Waterfall of the Gods!"
As we proceed towards Lake Mývatn, the landscape will unfold before us, featuring distinct volcanic structures like impressive lava pillars. Fascinatingly, this lake was formed by a massive basaltic lava eruption roughly 2,300 years ago.
Next, we'll explore the enchanting Grjótagjá Cave and the geothermally active Hverarönd hot springs at Námaskarð. During this segment, you have the chance to unwind in the steam baths or even indulge in a massage if desired. Alternatively, you may choose to savor a meal at a local eatery during your free time.
On our return journey, we will encounter the Dimmuborgir lava formations, a highlight for many visiting Lake Mývatn. Additionally, we will stop at Skútustaðagígar, known for its fascinating pseudo craters. Our final point of interest will be Eyjafjordur, celebrated as the longest fjord in northern Iceland!
We will conclude our excursion with farewells back at the meeting point in Akureyri after an immersive experience lasting approximately 6 hours.
