Huallaga Valley Tour
Description
This exploration of the Huallaga Valley offers a unique opportunity to delve into the historic region once inhabited by the Chupacho tribe, witnessing its transformation through time via its key landmarks.
Huallaga Valley Experience
Our journey begins at 8 am when we will meet you at your hotel in Huanuco for a drive to the left side of the Huallaga River, where we will enter the valley of the Conchumayo River. This area was once home to the Chupacho tribe long before the advent of the Spanish colonizers, who brought significant changes by constructing Christian churches that you will have the chance to explore.
Your tour will kick off with a visit to the Church of the Holy Trinity, recognized as the first church established by the conquistadors in this area back in 1541. Situated in Pachabamba, this church features a notable 17th-century painting of "Christ Crucified," imported from Spain. Inside, you will also find a baptismal font dating back to the 17th century along with other artifacts from the colonial period, including the esteemed "Holy Land Stone".
Subsequently, we will head to the village of Quera to visit the 17th-century Church of San Sebastian. Here, you will encounter exquisite items, including furnishings adorned with gold leaf as well as a pulpit intricately carved with depictions of Christian saints.
Our final stop will be the remarkable Puyhuan, a name that translates to "heart" in Quechua. This ancient natural monument, steeped in local myths, serves as a significant venue for Andean rituals, including the sacred ceremony of payment to the Earth.
In conclusion, we will head back to Huanuco to drop you off at your accommodation by 2 pm.
