Huánuco City Exploration
Your adventure begins with a pick-up from your chosen lodging, setting the stage for an insightful exploration of Huánuco. This city earned its title, the Knights of León, due to its establishment by Gómez de Alvarado y Contreras, who was the sibling of the well-known conqueror Pedro de Alvarado.
As we traverse through the heart of Huánuco, we will visit significant landmarks including the bustling main square. Experience a leisurely walk amidst various religious edifices, including the cathedral, the church of San Sebastian—which honors the patron of shoemakers—and the historic churches of San Cristobal and San Francisco, both dating back to the 1600s. We will also encounter the mausoleum dedicated to Daniel Alomía Robles, celebrated for composing the iconic melody El cóndor pasa, a signature piece of Peruvian music.
Next, we will explore some of Huánuco's most important monuments, such as the impressive Calicanto bridge and the century-old granite fountain. Our journey continues through the charming park of Santo Domingo, home to the renowned "tree of love," before we see the residence of Leoncio Prado Gutierrez, a notable military figure from Huánuco who valiantly participated in the guerilla struggles in Cuba and the Philippines.
The tour culminates in front of the monument dedicated to the "Negritos de Huanuco", a dance deeply rooted in local traditions and festivities of Christmas and Easter.
After a captivating three hours delving into the gems of Huánuco, we will return you to your accommodation, closing this memorable excursion.
