Activity Overview

Your adventure begins with a morning pickup from your accommodation in Guatemala City, from where we will embark towards the majestic Guatemalan Highlands. As we make our way towards Panajachel, the principal town situated along the stunning shores of Lake Atitlán, prepare to be captivated by the scenic beauty that characterizes this popular region.

Upon arriving in Panajachel after approximately three hours of travel, enjoy a guided exploration of the town. We will visit key attractions, including Santander Street and its historical church. From the dock, take in the breathtaking vistas of the lake and surrounding volcanoes—a perfect opportunity for memorable photographs.

Next, we will board a boat to navigate across Lake Atitlán, often hailed as one of the most picturesque lakes globally. During the leisurely crossing, you will admire the iconic Tolimán, Atitlán, and San Pedro volcanoes. Engage with captivating tales and local lore that enrich the experience.

After disembarking at San Juan La Laguna, renowned for its vibrant community, you will have the chance to immerse yourself in various craft workshops, working with chocolate, textiles, and medicinal plants. Post-workshop, a stroll through the charming village streets leads us back to Panajachel. There, indulge in a traditional Guatemalan meal and enjoy some leisure time to explore the town at your leisure.

Finally, after a fulfilling day, we will make our way back to your hotel in Guatemala City, completing the journey in approximately 12 to 12.5 hours.

Optional Santiago Atitlán Boat Experience

When reserving your trip, you have the option to enhance your experience with a boat ride to Santiago Atitlán. If selected, our vessel will navigate slightly east across the lake to visit a town that is home to one of Guatemala's most symbolic figures: Maximón.

In Santiago, stroll along the main avenue, lined with a variety of shops, cafés, and dining options. We will reach the central square to explore the brotherhood of Maximón, witnessing how local devotees present offerings, including aguardiente and cigars. Discover the intriguing duality of his identity, revered by some as a saint while viewed by others as a demon—which will certainly spark your curiosity!

After our visit to Santiago Atitlán, we will return to Panajachel by boat, where you can relish your free time for a traditional lunch at your own pace. Enjoy the experience!
