Details of the Day Trip

At the designated time, a minibus will pick you up from the specified meeting point in Kalambaka, setting the stage for your journey to Meteora, home to one of Greece's most iconic landmarks: the perched monasteries of Meteora.

After a brief ride of about 20 minutes, you will quickly grasp why this area is so special; these monasteries are perched atop incredible cliffs, soaring to heights of 600 meters (1,968 feet).

Throughout the excursion, we will share fascinating tales and noteworthy information about Meteora and its historical monasteries. Recognized as one of Greece's loveliest and most awe-inspiring regions, it was even featured in the popular series Game of Thrones, specifically as the stunning Eagle's Nest Prison, where the character Tyrion Lannister was held.

Historically, as many as 24 monasteries thrived in Meteora. However, due to time and various conflicts—with significant destruction during the Second World War—only six remain open for visitors: Great Meteoron, Varlaam, Rousanou, St. Nicholas Anapausas, St. Stephen, and Holy Trinity.

We will visit three of these monasteries, depending on your chosen date. Please note that while visits inside these religious sites do not include a guided experience, we will provide ample information before you enter.

The tour concludes with a return transfer back to our starting point in Kalambaka, wrapping up a memorable experience within approximately four hours.

Exploration of the Monasteries

During the outing, you'll have the opportunity to explore the interiors of three monasteries, subject to specific day's accessibility as certain monasteries have designated closing days. For instance, the Great Meteoron Monastery is not open to visitors on Tuesdays, in which case we will present the option to admire its exterior.
