Details of the Day Trip
A minibus will collect you at the specified meeting point in Kalambaka to start your excursion towards Meteora, home to some of Greece’s most renowned attractions: the clifftop monasteries of Meteora.
After a short ride of about 20 minutes, you will grasp why these monasteries are so uniquely positioned; they sit atop dramatic rock formations reaching 600 meters (1,968 feet) above the ground.
Throughout the tour, we will share captivating stories and fascinating details about Meteora and its religious sites. The beauty of this area is so striking that it served as a filming location for Game of Thrones, featuring the acclaimed Eagle's Nest Prison where Tyrion Lannister was held.
Historically, 24 monasteries thrived in Meteora, but due to various conflicts, including significant destruction during the Second World War, only six remain open for visitation today: Great Meteoron, Varlaam, Rousanou, St. Nicholas Anapausas, St. Stephen, and Holy Trinity.
Depending on the day of your visit, we will tour three of these monasteries. While the internal exploration of these sites is not guided, you will receive all necessary information before entering.
Once the tour of the Meteora Monasteries concludes, we will return to the starting point in Kalambaka, completing our journey after approximately four hours.
Exploration of the Monasteries
On this tour, you'll have the opportunity to explore the interiors of 3 monasteries, subject to the day's availability. Some monasteries may be closed on specific days; for instance, the Great Meteoron Monastery is not open on Tuesdays. If your visit coincides with this closure, we will appreciate its exterior instead.
It is important to note that there are no guided tours available inside the monasteries. However, you can access an audio guide for a more enriched experience during your visit.

Important information
On the day of the activity, please come to the Meteora Thrones Travel Center office, located at Trikalon 28, Kalampaka 422 00, Greece. Please arrive 15 minutes beforehand.
Tickets not Included
Entry to each of the Meteora monasteries costs 5EUR per person, and is not included in the price of the day trip.
Mandatory Dress Code
The visit to the Meteora monasteries requires a mandatory dress code for both men and women: no access is allowed in tank tops or shorts. Shoulders and knees must always be covered. In addition, women must wear long skirts and are not allowed to enter wearing pants.
