Description

This experience consists of two segments: a one-hour walking tour through Cartagena, succeeded by a 90-minute guided visit to the Caribbean Naval Museum. We will kick off our Pirates of Cartagena experience at the iconic Boca del Puente Clock Tower.

Following a brief overview, we will proceed to the Museum of Gold, where a short guided tour will allow us to admire some of the most celebrated pirate artifacts from Caribbean Colombia. Furthermore, we will encounter various pre-Colombian relics that played an integral role in the lives of pirates.

Next, we will visit the Governor's Palace, a particularly coveted site for pirates. Uncover the fascinating reasons behind its significance! After exploring the palace, we will delve into the initial assaults on Cartagena and unearth the etymology of the word pirate. Prepare to be amazed!

As our tour advances, we will arrive at the House Museum of Sir Francis Drake, where we will dive into the narrative of this renowned English privateer, highlighting his strategies for attacking the city. After this, we will visit Plaza de la Aduana Square, where legends linger regarding the old Casa de las Islas (House of the Islands), a resting place for notable pirates, privateers, and military personnel throughout history.

Nearby lies the San Ignacio Bastion, featuring a scale model of an authentic pirate ship. From there, we will make our way to the Caribbean Naval Museum. Within its permanent collection, we will discover a replica of the legendary San José Galleon, gain insights into the pirate narrative of Cartagena, and learn about the storied past of the ARC Gloria, the Colombian Navy Training Ship.

Concluding this enriching journey after approximately 2.5 hours, we will wrap up at the Naval Museum, where you are welcome to linger and explore the additional exhibitions following our guided session.
