Immerse yourself in the charm of the first Austro-German settlement as we embark on a day trip to Pozuzo and Prusia. This journey through Oxapampa will unveil the intriguing stories of their establishment by European settlers.

Pozuzo & Prusia Day Excursion

Our adventure begins at 6 am, gathering on Avenida Leopoldo Krausse before departing from Villa Rica toward the Oxapampa province. Along the route, marvel at the stunning landscapes of this central Peruvian region, including sights like the Yanachaga Chemillén National Park and the Rayantambo and Yulitunky waterfalls.

The first destination will be Pozuzo, established in 1895 by immigrants from Austro-Germany, marking it as the world's very first colony of its type. As we explore, you'll notice the influences of their traditions and architectural designs, reflected in the charming wooden structures and gable-roofed buildings that evoke a Central European ambiance.

Upon arrival, we will take a guided tour to discover key highlights, including the Colonists' cemetery and a replica of the ship Norton, which welcomed these pioneers to Peru.

Next, we will visit the Schafferer Museum, where you can delve into the legacy of the Austro-German colonization through artifacts that the early settlers brought with them across the ocean.

Our journey continues to Prusia, a quaint settlement adorned with traditional Germanic architecture. Here, we’ll pause to enjoy a hearty lunch, featuring local meat dishes and a refreshing beverage.

Following lunch, we will head to the Emperor Wilhelm I Suspension Bridge and stop by an arts and crafts store as well as a craft brewery, where you’ll have the opportunity to taste some locally brewed beer. Cheers to that!

As the day winds down, we will make our way back to Villa Rica, ensuring drop-off at the starting point between 5 and 6 pm.
