Saona Island Beach Excursion
Description
Discover the enchanting southern coastline of Saona Island through this day trip departing from Boca Chica. A true paradise filled with local flora, fauna, and majestic mangroves is at your fingertips!
Description
Your adventure begins between 7 and 9 am with a pickup from your Boca Chica hotel. We will embark on a scenic drive to Bayahíbe, where we'll board a boat to explore Cotubanamá National Park. On our journey, a brief stop at Palmilla beach will allow us to appreciate this stunning site, enveloped by coconut trees and soft sands.
Our voyage continues as we sail toward Saona Island, a remarkable destination within Cotubanamá National Park, also recognized as Parque Nacional del Este. Here, we will discover Playa La Caleta and Playa Mano Juan, both celebrated for their beautiful natural pools.
After working up an appetite, it's time for a lovely lunch! We will savor a traditional meal by the shoreline, featuring rice, meat, salad, pasta, and a refreshing non-alcoholic drink.
Post-lunch, we will take a stroll through the charming town of Mano Juan, where we can admire the vibrant traditional houses and visit a sea turtle conservation center. Here, we'll gain insight into the essential care protocols for nurturing the hatchlings of these remarkable creatures. If your visit falls between August and September, you may even get the opportunity to witness newborn turtles!
Next, we’ll head to Los Flamencos beach for a refreshing swim and to observe some of the area’s most spectacular native bird species. Following this, we’ll embark on a boat journey through the rich mangrove forests, home to unique varieties of red, white, button, and black mangroves. Should you wish, you can even dive off the boat to witness the starfish swimming below, with care taken not to disturb them.
As our day draws to a close, we’ll enjoy a delightful cocktail featuring Dominican rum. Finally, we will return to the pier in Bayahíbe for the bus ride back to Boca Chica, anticipating your hotel arrival between 5 and 6:30 pm.

Important information
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Boca Chica between 7 and 9 am. The guide will contact you to inform you of the exact pickup time.
It's important that you bring with you an identification card or passport on the day of the activity. A photo of your passport is sufficient.
Important
- Once you know the exact pickup time, please be ready at the hotel reception 10 minutes in advance to avoid delays on the tour.
- During lunch, you can get second servings of the rice dishes, salad, fresh fruit and drinks if you're still hungry.
- The conditions of the speedboat ride will depend on the tides and sea conditions. The trip may be a bit bumpy, so for this reason, the activity is not recommended for people with back or neck problems. In any case, all seats have backrests and, if you sit at the back of the boat, you'll feel less movement.
- We highly recommend starting the day with a hearty breakfast to ensure you have enough energy for the excursion ahead.
- Photography equipment is not provided by our company. If you wish to have professional photos taken, you can hire somebody on your own. We suggest discussing the price and quantity of photos to be delivered beforehand, ensuring both parties are clear on the agreed conditions. You should also get the photographer's name, surname, email, and telephone number. Verify that the photographer writes down their email for photo delivery or for future reference (make sure to write them within a day, as photos are usually deleted).
- Additionally, on the beach, you may encounter local vendors selling handicrafts, women offering massages, or coconut water sellers inviting you to taste their refreshing products. These individuals are part of the community on Saona Island, and their livelihood depends on tourism. If you're not interested, politely declining is completely understandable. However, if you choose to purchase their products or services, you'll be supporting the local economy and contributing to their success. We appreciate your collaboration in promoting and developing the community.
