La Leona Petrified Forest Hike

Embark on a thrilling archaeological adventure! Encounter dinosaur fossils aged 70 million years and ancient trees within the La Leona petrified forest. This hiking experience promises to be unforgettable.

Hike Through the La Leona Petrified Forest

Your journey begins at 9 am with a hotel pickup, after which we will board a bus for a scenic three-hour drive to the La Leona petrified forest.

Along the way, take in the breathtaking views of intriguing landmarks, including Lake Argentino, the Santa Cruz River, the majestic Andes Mountains, and Mount Fitz Roy. A brief stop will be scheduled at the midpoint to allow us to stretch and refresh.

Upon reaching the foothills of Cerro Los Hornos, we will embark on our hike. A captivating pathway lies ahead within the petrified forest, a singular natural environment filled with a variety of fossils.

We will have the opportunity to see ancient tree trunks exceeding 70 million years in age. These fossils, once obscured by time, have now been revealed by the elements. With a bit of luck, we may also encounter some dinosaur remnants that once roamed these lands.

After enjoying a lunch break, we'll begin our return journey. We expect to arrive back in El Calafate between 4:30 pm and 5 pm.

Duration of the Hike

The hike spans roughly 3 hours and presents a moderate challenge, traversing uneven terrain.
