Laguna de los Tres Hiking Day Trip
Description
On this hiking route to Laguna de los Tres, discover stunning landscapes nestled in the heart of the Argentine Patagonia. You'll pass through native forests and scenic rivers while reveling in breathtaking views of the majestic Mount Fitz Roy, ensuring an unforgettable experience!
Day Trip Details
Our journey begins as we pick you up from your hotel in El Calafate at the scheduled time, setting off towards El Chaltén. Along National Route 40, take in the vastness of the Patagonian steppe and admire the iconic silhouette of Mount Fitz Roy gracing the horizon.
After approximately 3 hours on the road, we'll reach El Chaltén, where a brief break will allow you to prepare for the hike. Our adventure will commence at the Electric River Bridge, the entry point of our trek.
The first segment leads us toward the Piedras Blancas viewpoint. This initial leg, taking around 1.5 hours, will see us gaining altitude while soaking in stunning glacier views. The trail then descends gently to Poincenot Base Camp, reached about 2 hours after departure.
Here, you can opt to push through to the final destination or enjoy a less strenuous pathway to Capri Lagoon, where lunch is available before rejoining the group.
If you choose to continue to the Laguna de los Tres, we'll cross the bridge above the Blanco River and ascend a trail that spans just 3 km (1.8 mi), gaining an elevation of 1,410 ft (430 m). The reward for this effort is unmatched: an awe-inspiring view of the lagoon, beautifully reflecting the Fitz Roy and its glacier in its crystal-clear waters—truly a natural marvel!
In this enchanting spot, you can enjoy a picnic-style lunch featuring a packed meal with fruit, nuts, and dessert. Post-lunch, we’ll begin our descent back to Poincenot Camp and make our way to Capri Lagoon.
Ultimately, after hiking around 12.4 mi (20 km), we’ll return to El Chaltén and commence our journey back to El Calafate. We’ll conclude our adventure at your hotel after approximately 15 hours of exploration.
