Activity Overview
Your adventure commences with a pickup from your hotel in Funchal, followed by a scenic minibus ride to the Arco da Calheta. Nestled in the picturesque southern region of Madeira, this charming town marks the beginning of our trekking journey.
We will embark on the Levada das 25 Fontes, one of the historic aqueducts that define Madeira. This aqueduct has evolved into a vast network of trails, and it derives its name from the 25 natural springs that can be found along the pathway. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this area boasts an impressive biodiversity of flora and fauna, which will be highlighted during our excursion.
As we progress along the levada, we will arrive at the Lagoa de 25 Fontes, a serene lagoon fed by the cascading 25 Fontes Falls. This waterfall, towering at 30 meters (almost 100 feet), features multiple streams of water flowing down the slope. You will have a half-hour of leisure time to take a refreshing swim in the pool and enjoy your packed meal.
In the afternoon, we’ll regroup to explore Rabaçal before retracing our steps back to Arco da Calheta. Following this, we will return to Funchal, with hotel drop-off scheduled for around 5 pm.
Hotel Pickup
This excursion includes pickup from and drop-off at hotels located in the center of Funchal. If your accommodation lies outside the city center or elsewhere on the island, please meet us at the specified location: Rua 5 de Outubro, 78.
Essential Information
The hike lasts approximately 4 hours and spans 11 km (just under 7 miles). A moderate level of fitness is necessary to complete this route.

Important information
At the scheduled time, you'll be picked up from the hotel in Funchal that you indicated when making the reservation. Please be ready and waiting a few minutes in advance.
This activity includes pickup and drop-off for hotels in the centre of Funchal.
If you're staying outside of the city centre, or elsewhere on the island, we'll collect you at the indicated time at the following meeting point: Rua 5 de Outubro, 78 (at the bus stop opposite the courthouse). Please be punctual.
Please remember that lunch is not included. We recommend bringing your own picnic.
Not Included
Please note that the tourist tax is not included in the activity and will be charged at 4.50EUR per person, payable in cash on site.
Additional information
The time spent at the lagoon may vary, depending on how long each group takes to arrive at 25 Fontes. There may be one or two stops with the minibus before and/or after the hike, which may be at a supermarket or a snack bar so that you can purchase water or use the bathroom.
