Hike Overview
Are you eager to discover one of the richest forests in Madeira? At the designated time, our team will pick you up from your accommodation. Once everyone is ready, we’ll board our transport for a transfer lasting around 1 hour.
Our journey will lead us to the Parque Forestal das Queimadas, a well-known gateway to Madeira’s laurel forests. Following a
short briefing, you will embark on your individual adventure along the renowned Levada do Caldeirão Verde trail, designed to channel water from the lush northern regions to agricultural lands.
The trail spans 13 kilometers (8.1 mi) and is expected to take about 5 hours to complete. This almost flat path sits at an altitude ranging from 872 (2,861 ft) to 1,062 (3,484 ft), making it suitable for maintaining a relaxed pace due to its minimal elevation shifts. One side features the levada, while the other showcases steep slopes adorned with dense laurel trees. This area represents a subtropical ecosystem, home to unique species including laurel, linden, and viñátigo.
As you walk, you will encounter up to 4 tunnels carved into volcanic rock, some reaching lengths of 200 m (656 ft). Continuing along the path, charming waterfalls will appear, flowing across your route, alongside sections where water trickles directly from the rocky walls. This enchanting landscape will make you feel truly immersed in nature!
As you approach the end of your journey, you will be greeted by the stunning Caldeirão Verde, where a magnificent waterfall cascades into a beautiful natural amphitheater rich in vegetation. After taking time to appreciate this spectacle, we will regroup to travel back to your hotel.
Your experience will conclude with a total duration of 7 hours.
