Port Louis & Pamplemousses Private Day Trip
Description
During this private journey through northern Mauritius, you will explore Port Louis, the island's vibrant capital. The adventure continues in Pamplemousses, where you can wander through the scenic botanical gardens, visit a historic sugar factory turned museum, and experience the local rum and delightful tropical sorbets at the Labourdonnais plantation.
Description
Your experience begins with a pickup from your hotel at the designated time, after which we'll set off towards Port Louis, Mauritius’ capital. Founded as a secure port by French colonists in the 17th century, it has evolved into a vital commercial hub and stands as the region's most significant harbor. As we navigate the bustling streets, you'll have the chance to visit Central Market, an authentic marketplace filled with enticing aromas and vibrant colors.
Our journey continues to the Caudan Waterfront, a charming peninsula located along the bay, which has become the heart of commerce in Port Louis. This area showcases attractive structures, including the historic meteorological observatory and the port offices, now occupied by various eateries and shops.
Your guide will then accompany you to Chinatown, situated in the heart of Port Louis. Passing through the traditional 'friendship gate' will transport you to the Far East, where you'll find pagodas and quaint eateries. We will also make a stop at Fort Adelaide, a black stone colonial citadel that continues to oversee the city. Following this, you will enjoy some leisure time for a relaxed lunch.
Leaving Port Louis, we will journey to the Botanical Gardens in Pamplemousses, established over 200 years ago. Here, you can take your time to admire the renowned giant water lilies. If you wish, there will be an option to enhance your visit with a trip to a historic sugar factory, now transformed into an ancient sugar museum called “L’Aventure du Sucre” (The Sugar Adventure).
This hacienda, dating back to 1774, opened its doors to the public a few years ago. Within its grounds, you’ll discover a sugar cane plantation and fruit gardens, where the produce is used to create jams and sweets. As we explore its beautifully restored halls, remnants of a luxurious colonial era, you'll have the opportunity to taste exquisite rum, juice, and jams.
The tour will conclude with a return to your hotel, arriving approximately 8 hours after the initial collection.
