Mexican Independence Tour of Guanajuato
Description
Embark on a journey through time as you explore the pivotal moments of Mexican Independence with a guided visit to the Guanajuato towns integral to the insurrection: Dolores Hidalgo, Atotonilco, and San Miguel de Allende.
Description
Your adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel in Guanajuato at the scheduled time, after which we will embark on a fascinating journey through the history of the Mexican Revolution that ultimately led to the nation's quest for independence.
To commence this enjoyable excursion, we'll make a stop at the Conservas Santa Rosa store to taste the delightful local treats from the mountainous region of Guanajuato. Subsequently, we’ll proceed to the old prison of the city and visit the mausoleum dedicated to José Alfredo Jiménez.
Our first major destination will be Dolores Hidalgo, where the revered Miguel Hidalgo Costilla, often called the Father of the Nation, ignited the revolutionary spirit with his historic Cry of Dolores in 1810. During our time here, we will tour the church where the insurrection began and uncover significant insights about the origins and developments of the independence movement.
Next, we will head to Atotonilco, home to the Sanctuary of Jesus Nazareno, an exquisite baroque church adorned with historical murals by the artist Pocasangre. Did you know that Hidalgo carried the banner of the Virgin of Guadalupe as the inaugural symbol for the insurgents?
If you're feeling hungry, a lunch break will be offered, allowing you to enjoy a meal at your own pace before we continue tracing the path of the War of Independence to San Miguel de Allende.
This town holds significance as it is the birthplace of General Ignacio Allende, one of the war's prominent leaders. You will have the opportunity to explore this delightful town for an hour of free time. Our journey concludes with a drop-off in the heart of Guanajuato, near the Juarez Theater, wrapping up this enlightening experience approximately 8 hours after our initial departure from your hotel.
