Tour Overview
Day 1: Hammamet - El Djem - Matmata - Douz
Our adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel in Hammamet. As we head southward, we’ll traverse the lush plains of Tunisia. After approximately 90 minutes and a brief stop for breakfast at your convenience, we will reach El Djem Amphitheater, an outstanding structure dating back to 238 AD. Prepare to delve into the fascinating history of this UNESCO World Heritage Site!
Following El Djem, our journey continues to Matmata, renowned for its unique troglodyte homes embedded in the clay landscape. Here, we will explore how the Berber people have ingeniously adapted to their environment. A visit to one of these homes and the famous Sidi Idriss Hotel, a filming location for various scenes from Star Wars, is included. Lunch will be served at the hotel’s restaurant.
Post-lunch, we will proceed for around 80 minutes to Douz, recognized as the gateway to the Sahara. Upon arrival, guests will check into a desert camp nestled among the dunes. An optional camel ride at sunset awaits for those seeking to witness the desert’s enchanting atmosphere.
As the day draws to a close, indulge in a traditional Bedouin dinner beneath the stars, accompanied by lively music, before settling down in your personal desert tent for the night.
Day 2: Douz - Chott El Djerid - Chebika - Kairouan - Hammamet
After breakfast, we will embark on a 90-minute journey to Chott El Djerid, celebrated as Tunisia’s largest salt lake known for its captivating mirages. Keep an eye out for any hidden palaces beneath the salt surface!
Next, we proceed to the stunning oasis valley of Chebika, where water flows amidst palm trees, reflecting its past as a Roman refuge. This oasis is a genuine desert haven, perfect for about an hour of exploration and hiking.
Afterward, a delicious lunch at a local restaurant awaits before we head to Kairouan, where we’ll admire the architectural splendor of the Great Mosque. Stroll through the narrow streets and vibrant souks, soaking in the charm of this historic town.
Finally, we will make our way back to Hammamet, aiming to arrive around 8 pm.
