Evening Tour for the Day of the Dead
While death is often viewed as a conclusion, in Mexico, it marks a new beginning. This unique “final journey” is celebrated in an extraordinary manner that you'll explore during your visit. We will collect you at 7 pm from your accommodation in Bahías de Huatulco, followed by a brief 40-minute bus journey to the town of Santa María Huatulco. Here, a walking expedition awaits where you will uncover the traditions and lore surrounding the eagerly anticipated Day of the Dead celebrations.
From late October to early November, the streets of Santa María Huatulco echo the vibrant spirit of the Day of the Dead through colorful decorations. We will encounter the poignant altars adorned with skulls, skeletons, and photographs of those who have passed away, marking their presence at every corner. Contrary to a somber atmosphere, this festival is a jubilant tribute in Mexico, celebrating the memories of our departed family and friends.
As we wander through Santa María Huatulco, the town's streets and churches glow with the soft light of candles honoring the dead. A visit to a local residence includes tasting traditional chocolate and bread served during this occasion, alongside a refreshing mezcal, a popular Mexican spirit.
The tour progresses to the Municipal Pantheon, where you will witness the deep reverence the local community holds for their deceased. Here, captivating legends and tales unfold, revealing the thin veil that divides the living from the departed. It is customary on this meaningful day for the souls of those who have left the mortal realm to return, reminding us of our transient journey in life.
Upon completing this enriching experience, we will return to Bahías de Huatulco, with an expected arrival at your hotel around midnight.
