Day 1: Huatulco to Oaxaca
Your journey begins at 6 am with a pick-up from your hotel in Huatulco. From there, we will travel to Jalapa del Marqués for a delightful breakfast. The adventure continues along the Mezcal Route, where we will visit picturesque locations, including Santiago Matatlán and San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya. Here, you will embark on a 2-hour exploration of mezcal production and its cultural significance.
Next, we will explore the archaeological site of Mitla, home to ancient residences, burial temples, and ceremonial spaces used by the Mixtec civilization. Our itinerary also includes a visit to Teotitlán del Valle to witness traditional rug-making and the millenary tree of Santa María del Tule, estimated to be over 2000 years old.
By 3:30 pm, we will arrive in Oaxaca City, where you can admire the stunning baroque architecture of the Santo Domingo de Guzmán church and its associated museum. The day concludes with your hotel check-in, allowing you the remainder of the afternoon to explore at your leisure.
Day 2: Oaxaca to Huatulco
We will depart the hotel at 8 am to visit the Monte Albán archaeological zone, exploring the remnants of the former capital of the Zapotec civilization. Following this insightful experience, we will return to Oaxaca to wander through the lively Benito Juárez handicraft market.
Subsequently, we’ll take a trip to San Bartolo Coyotepec, renowned for its exquisite black clay art. Afterward, we will proceed to either San Antonio Arrazola or San Martin Tilcajete to discover the creation process of alebrijes, which are colorful Mexican handicrafts.
