Excursion to Oxapampa & Yanachaga National Park

We will begin our journey at 8 am with a pickup from your accommodation in La Merced, heading northward.

The first stop will be in Oxapampa, the provincial capital with a fascinating history, having been established by Austrian and German settlers in the 19th century. Today, their descendants continue to inhabit this area, where a blend of European and Andean cultures can be observed, illustrated by surnames like Mayer and Müller.

As we explore the various districts of Oxapampa, including the neighborhood of Miraflores and Llamaquizu, you will witness the traditional architecture along the Paseo de los Colonos. Additionally, we will visit the Santa Rosa church, notable for its distinctively Tyrolean architecture, which is rare in Peru.

Following this, our journey will proceed through the Oxapampa valley, with a brief stop at the Huarapo estate. Here, you will gain insight into the production of sugar cane brandy and have the chance to sample this local specialty. Nearby, we will also visit a trout farm and a dairy facility to better understand the agricultural practices of this region.

After a break for lunch, we will continue our adventure into the Yanachaga National Park, nestled in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. This stunning protected area offers an excellent opportunity to experience the authentic jungle environment of central Peru.

After a rewarding day exploring the vibrant elements of the Oxapampa region, we will conclude our excursion and make our way back to La Merced, arriving at your hotel around 5 pm.
