Guelatao & Calpulálpam 2 Day Adventure
Day 1: From Oaxaca to Guelatao de Juárez and Calpulálpam de Méndez
Your journey begins at 10 am with a pick-up from your hotel in Oaxaca, followed by a drive to the Guelatao glass viewpoint. Here, you will enjoy panoramic views of the charming Oaxaca Valley alongside the majestic Sierra Juárez mountains. Following this, we will make our way to Guelatao de Juárez, where we will explore a museum replicating the home of Benito Juárez and visit the basilica where he was baptized. This respected lawyer and politician is celebrated as 'Benemérito de las Américas'.
The adventure will continue as we travel to Calpulálpam de Méndez, recognized as a Pueblo Mágico (Magic Town) for its exquisite embroidery. Upon arrival, you will have some free time for lunch. Afterward, we will embark on a guided tour to delve into the local culture. You will stroll through the town, visit its market, and admire the splendid baroque and neoclassical San Mateo Apóstol temple.
As the sun sets, we will retire to charming stone cabins for a restful overnight stay.
Day 2: Exploring Calpulálpam de Méndez and Returning to Oaxaca
On the second day, rise early to visit the UMA (Environmental Management Unit), a dedicated reserve for the conservation of the white-tailed deer. Witness the care provided to these delightful creatures and capture memorable photographs. Next, we will take a scenic walk to the Arroyo Cave, where you can connect with nature by walking barefoot and experiencing its unique three tiers.
Back in Calpulálpam de Méndez, you will have an hour of free time for lunch. After your meal, we’ll visit the Traditional Indigenous Medicine Centre to explore the healing properties of local flora. Opportunity for relaxation awaits with options for body cleansing, massage, or a visit to the sauna.
The trip wraps up as we journey back to Oaxaca, with an expected arrival at your hotel around 7 pm.
