About the Arc de Triomphe
Legend has it that Napoleon Bonaparte, perhaps keenly aware of his stature, sought a way to invite others to experience a sense of smallness. In 1805, following France's triumph in the Battle of Austerlitz, he commissioned a grand monument to honor this victory and evoke awe in its observers. Despite his intentions, Napoleon himself did not witness the completion of this monumental work.
Located at the end of the famed Champs-Élysées, the Arc de Triomphe displays the names of Napoleon's significant military victories inscribed upon its surfaces. Below these names lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where an eternal flame serves as a tribute to the unidentified fallen from both World Wars.
Operating Hours
The Arc de Triomphe in Paris welcomes visitors during the following hours:
- April 1 to September 30: Wednesdays to Mondays from 10 am to 11 pm, and Tuesdays from 11 am to 11 pm
- October 1 to March 31: Wednesdays to Mondays from 10 am to 10:30 pm, and Tuesdays from 11 am to 10:30 pm
The last entry is permitted 45 minutes before closing time.
Due to safety regulations and visitor capacity, the Arc de Triomphe may close earlier if it becomes too crowded. To enhance your experience, it is advisable not to schedule your visit too close to closing time. Arriving after 11 am can also help you avoid the morning rush.
Special Opening Hours in 2026
On certain days, the Arc de Triomphe will have adjusted hours:
- Every weekend, including Fridays, opens at 11 am.
- From December 19 to January 4, opens at 11 am.
Special closing times include:
- September 3: closses at 9 pm, final entry at 8:15 pm.
- September 9: closes at 6 pm, last admission at 5:10 pm.
- September 11: closed from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm (with last entry at 5:50 pm and first slot after reopening at 7:30 pm).
- November 11: closed throughout the morning, final admission occurs 45 minutes before closing.
- December 24: closes at 4 pm, with the last entry 45 minutes prior.
- December 31: closes at 4 pm, with the last entry 45 minutes before closing.
Free Admission
Entry to the Arc de Triomphe is complimentary for the following groups:
- Young individuals aged 18 to 25 from the European Union
- All children under 18 years, regardless of nationality
Additionally, free entry is offered on the first Sunday of each month from January 1 to March 31 and from November 1 to December 31. The 3rd weekend of September is also designated as a free admission period.
To obtain the free admission mentioned above, visitors must visit the ticket office at the site and present appropriate documentation confirming their eligibility for a complimentary ticket.

The Arc de Triomphe in Paris is located in Place Charles de Gaulle Square.
The closest metro stops to the Arc de Triomphe are the following: Argentine and George V (line 1, the yellow line); Ternes (line 2, the blue line); Kléber (line 6, the light green line). You can also arrive by RER train at the Charles de Gaulle stop on line A.
Important: the lift to climb up to the panoramic terrace, which is reserved exclusively for people with reduced mobility, is closed due to maintenance work.

Free Admission
Admission to the Arc de Triomphe is free for the following individuals:
- Young people from the European Union between 18 and 25 years old.
- Children under 18 years old, regardless of their nationality.
Admission is also free for everyone on the first Sunday of the month between January 1 and March 31, and between November 1 and December 31. Similarly, the 3rd weekend of September is free.
