"I did not intend to do it, sir," are reputed to be Marie Antoinette's final words before her execution on a chilly October morning in 1793. This renowned queen of France faced her end within the confines of the Conciergerie, which evolved from its original role as a medieval palace to a prison during the chaotic times of the French Revolution.

Your skip-the-line access to the Conciergerie invites you to explore the remarkable spaces within this gothic structure, positioned on the Île de la Cité at the core of Paris. Among its most notable features is the clock tower—home to Paris's very first public clock.

Below the grand palace, you will encounter the prison cells, revealing the grim realities that inmates endured in the era of the French Revolution. One cell, in particular, draws attention as it housed prisoner number 280, Marie Antoinette, during her last days. Here, you can view artifacts that once belonged to the monarch and discover the events that led to her tragic downfall. Can it be true that, upon learning that the French people were starving, she responded with "let them eat cake"?

The Conciergerie also functions as part of the French Palace of Justice, with select rooms and facilities included in your skip-the-line entry.

Language Options

Your ticket includes a complimentary informational leaflet in English as well as in various other languages. Guided tours, available without extra cost, are only conducted in French, lasting about an hour with variable schedules. If you wish to join a guided tour in French, inquire with the personnel at the Conciergerie.

Conciergerie Operating Hours

The Conciergerie opens its doors to visitors during the following hours:

• Until December 31: 9:30 am to 6 pm

The last admission occurs 30 minutes before closing time.

Special Schedule

• The Conciergerie will close early at 2:30 pm on December 24 and December 31.
• On July 15 and September 16, 2026, opening will shift to 10:30 am instead of the usual 9:30 am.

Complimentary Admission

Access to the Sainte-Chapelle is free for specific individuals:

• Young adults aged 18 to 25 from the European Union.
• Children under 18 from any nationality.

To obtain this free admission, you must visit the ticket office at the location and present a valid ID that verifies your eligibility for the complimentary ticket.

Additionally, everyone enjoys free admission on the first Sunday of the month from January 1 to March 31, between November 1 and December 31, and during the third weekend of September.

Access Points

The Île de la Cité can be reached via two distinct entry points in Paris:

• From the right bank of the River Seine (through metro station Châtelet): access to the island is via the Pont au Change, where you will need to present your booking voucher at the Tour de l'Horloge checkpoint.
• From the left bank of the River Seine (through metro station Saint-Michel Notre-Dame): entry is via the Pont Saint Michel, and you must show your booking voucher at the junction of Quai des Orfèvres and Boulevard du Palais.
