Description
Experience the breathtaking architecture and historical significance of one of Paris’ iconic landmarks on this guided tour of Notre-Dame. Accompanied by a small group consisting of no more than 5 participants, you will have the opportunity to delve into the recently restored interior of this renowned cathedral, which suffered damage from a fire in April 2019.
Tour Details
At the selected time, our meeting point will be at the statue of Charlemagne, situated directly in front of the Notre-Dame de Paris. Prepare yourself for an intriguing exploration of this venerable symbol of Paris as we embark on our journey to the Île de la Cité, home to one of the city’s most significant medieval structures.
Following a brief introduction, we will access the main nave and chapels with a small group limited to 12 individuals. During our exploration, observe the stunning light filtering through the cathedral’s rosettes, gaze at its exquisite stained glass windows, and take in the biblical narratives they portray.
While we stroll through the main nave and view the High Altar, we will share insights into the origins of Notre-Dame, tracing back to the 12th century, along with its architectural, historical, and cultural transformations over the centuries. The grandeur of the cathedral’s vault and ribbed structures will also be highlighted as we delve into the principles of Gothic art.
Furthermore, the discussion will include details regarding the significant fire that impacted Notre-Dame in April 2019. Gain insight into the areas that experienced the most damage and discover how restoration efforts in the subsequent years aimed to revive the cathedral’s most affected portions.
As our tour progresses, prepare to be captivated by the cathedral’s remarkable treasures, notably the organ of Notre-Dame, The Pietà sculpted by Nicolas Coustou, along with other notable pieces of sacred art.
Ultimately, this 1-hour guided tour of Notre-Dame will conclude, allowing you to further explore the naves and chapels that captured your interest at your leisure.
