Palaces of Fontainebleau & Vaux-le-Vicomte Day Trip
Description
Are you curious about the lifestyle of the French monarchy? Join us on this day trip from Paris to explore the magnificent Palace of Fontainebleau and Vaux-le-Vicomte. These two architectural masterpieces are waiting for your discovery!
Day Trip Overview
Our journey begins when we meet at the entrance of the Hotel Pullman Paris Centre Bercy, from where we will head south of Paris.
After about an hour’s drive, we will reach the Palace of Fontainebleau. Your ticket includes admission, along with a QR code granting you access to an English audio guide for your smartphone. With this guide, you'll be able to navigate through various rooms at your leisure.
This historic site is notable as the only royal and imperial residence in France that has continuously hosted inhabitants for over seven centuries, right from the era of Francis I to that of Napoleon III. While you listen to the audio guide, you'll encounter Napoleon I's throne and the iconic horseshoe staircase, as well as an array of furniture and decor that reflect significant historical eras.
Following your visit, you'll have an hour of leisure to wander through the gardens of Fontainebleau and enjoy lunch at the palace's restaurant. After your time there, we will reboard the bus to proceed to the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, which is just a 45-minute drive away.
Your visit to the second palace also includes an admission ticket with an English audio guide. Young visitors will have the chance to dress in 17th-century costumes, adding a fun twist to the experience! As you tour the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, you’ll explore the rooms of this Baroque jewel, the design of which served as inspiration for the Palace of Versailles.
Your entry also grants you access to Nicolas Fouquet's private apartments, the state rooms, the kitchens, and even the wine cellars. Don’t miss out on the chance to visit the observation deck of the dome, where you’ll capture stunning views of the gardens that envelop the palace.
Finally, we will make our way back from the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte to the original meeting point in Paris, with an expected return time about 9 hours after our departure.
